Lurna MCP for Claude & ChatGPT

Use Lurna inside your AI chat - generate interactive flashcards and structured study notes, then export them to app.lurna.co for spaced repetition and long-term review.

1. What is the Lurna MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT connect to external tools. The Lurna MCP server adds study tools directly to your chat:

  • Create Flashcards - interactive flip-through decks in chat
  • Generate Study Notes - formatted Markdown in an A4 reader view
  • Export to Lurna - send decks and notes to your Lurna account with one click

Claude or ChatGPT composes the study content; the Lurna server validates it and renders the interactive UI. No separate API keys are required for the MCP server itself.

2. Connect in Claude

Claude Desktop or Claude.ai:

  1. Open Settings -> Connectors (or Integrations).
  2. Add a custom MCP connector.
  3. Choose Streamable HTTP as the transport.
  4. Enter the server URL:
  5. https://mcp.lurna.co/mcp
  6. Save and start a new conversation.

3. Connect in ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT Settings -> Connectors (or Apps).
  2. Create a new connector and paste the MCP server URL.
  3. Use: https://mcp.lurna.co/mcp
  4. Complete any auth prompts, then start a new chat.

If tools do not appear, start a new conversation after connecting. MCP clients cache tool definitions per session.

4. Available Tools

  • create_flashcards (Create Flashcards) - builds an interactive flashcard deck from AI-generated Q&A pairs.
  • generate_notes (Generate Study Notes) - creates structured Markdown notes with a summary and A4 reader UI.

5. Example Prompts

Flashcards for exam prep:

Create flashcards for my biology midterm on photosynthesis - cover the light reactions, Calvin cycle, and ATP/NADPH usage. About 15 cards.

Study notes from a topic:

Write study notes on the causes and consequences of the 2008 financial crisis. Include key terms, a timeline, and a summary.

From pasted material:

Here are my lecture notes on CRISPR: [paste text]. Generate study notes, then create a flashcard set for the most testable concepts.

6. Export to Lurna

After flashcards or notes are generated, use the in-chat UI:

  • Study in Lurna (flashcards) - opens your deck in Lurna for spaced repetition review.
  • Export to Lurna (notes) - saves the note to your Lurna documents.

You will be redirected to app.lurna.co. Sign in if prompted, then continue studying in Lurna.

7. Troubleshooting

Tools not showing up?

  • Start a new chat after adding the connector.
  • Confirm the URL ends with `/mcp`.
  • Check that Streamable HTTP (not legacy SSE) is selected.

UI looks outdated after an update?

  • Start a fresh conversation - clients cache MCP resources per session.

Export button not working?

  • Make sure you are signed in to Lurna in your browser.
  • Allow pop-ups for app.lurna.co if the tab does not open.
